Artists Statement

I have a fascination with the human condition, how individuals and communities respond to environmental, social and emotional change.  I often let my work unfold trusting my unconscious and conscious thoughts to intertwine. The process of drawing and experimenting allows me to daydream on paper, then I develop these loose sketches into more concrete bodies of work.

My practice is inspired by these concepts in parallel with the female form, colour and texture. My intention is to provoke an emotional response from the viewer investigating ideas around isolation and displacement.  Paintings of large female nudes, semi abstract oil paintings and mixed media sculptures explore the existential core of human experience and spirit and the resilience of both our physical and psychological landscapes.

I also enjoy playing with scale and proportion. Often looking at juxtaposed positions - beauty and beast, strength and fragility, power and suppression. My work combines old with new; intertwining the past with the present, helping me make sense of the world and others I meet along the way.
